Introduction
|
Old Bird, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation since 2000 dedicated to facilitating acoustic monitoring of the flight calls birds give during nocturnal migration. This organization has two primary branches of activity. One is the development and distribution of information and tools for advancing the method and utility of monitoring avian night filght calls. The second is the establishment and maintenance of networks of acoustic monitoring stations for gathering and distributing night flight call data for environmental education and understanding.
2008 Dickcissel Challenge Award Old Bird is offering a $1000 challenge award to the team of high school students that makes the closest estimate to the actual number of Dickcissel night flight calls detected by an acoustic monitoring station at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in south Texas during spring 2005. The competition is open to any team of two teenagers on earth. Deadline for entry: May 10, 2008.
